We've seen the Mantis and it is awesome. We did a prior art search when we started this project and didn't find them... they were still in stealth mode. Apparently they've been at it since 2009!

We were never the first giant hexapod though... check out OSU's Adaptive Suspension Vehicle, or the Timberjack. The existence of other hexapods does not detract from our primary mission, which is to build in a way that enables others to follow and improve.

Have you guys seen this? I think someone beat you to the punch. Though, his robot isn't named Stompy, and is therefore less awesome.

Working on it now! We were trying to 'save up' an update for a big reveal, but it enough time has passed that we just need to post what we have so far. Sigh... that'll teach us.

Hi guys,
I'm following your awesome project for about 10 months now and I really love what you're doing! Your progress so far is amazing and I hope to see your giant robot walking around soon.
Just one question: Where's your promised weekly update? It has been nearly 3 weeks since you uploaded the last video. So please post an update, I'd love to see stompy growing. :)

Hi Fred,

We've taken your comment to heart and have invested in a video camera. This video was shot with my DSLR, which has no autofocus during video capture and is generally not a good camcorder.

As we get used to the video update format, I'm sure we'll have less rambly video updates. We've considered bringing people on, but per our Kickstarter promise, we don't feel comfortable paying anyone for the work, so we're in a bit of a bind there.

Great to see you guys posting again! I work in a NASA Observational Cosmology lab, and, of course, custom thermal control systems abound. So it's great fun to see you all working through the control systems on something so big and powerful. I'm am very glad to see you taking safety seriously. And, once in a while, someone asks about my Friend of Robots wrist band. Yay! Go Team STOMPY!

Hi Guys,

Nice to see some sort of update, but if you are going to do them via video then you need to really lift your video skills... it was way to long, poorly scripted (ie, rambling) and the audio and lighting was not the best.
Sorry to be so blunt, but there are bunch of us following this project and want to see some useful project updates.

Perhaps getting someone on board to just do your social media/blog updates should be considered?

Cheers.
